and walk down the side hill to get in here. it's really, really, it's very bad in here. >> what a mess. rob marciano has been tracking the storms that have been soaking northern california. is there more rain on the way? >> there is. not today, today we get a break, but in some areas rivers and small streams are on the rise and another pulse of energy pointing its way right at northern california. it will be the fourth pulse of heavy wind, rain and snow coming into this area over a five-day period. look at some of the damage out of oakland. a number of homes damaged because of flooding and rains there. roads damaged as well this is widespread, across the bay area, southern parts of oregon, just the infrastructure can't handle this moisture and underwashing some of these roadways. rescues, high water rescues yesterday and over the weekend. you can just imagine when some of these small streams come up and over the roadways, if you're driving through them people get stuck. the crews are brought in to try to get the job done and folks to safety. across napa valley, incredible flooding there. th

is expected today. rob marciano is following it all from the cnn weather center in atlanta. a lot of rain headed their direction? >> yes. not as much as last week, but the ground is already sat ratur. napa valley has been getting hit hard. the russian river up and over flood banks. now they will ease back into the riverbeds, but with additional rainfall today, it may go back into flood stage there. there is the latest video showing a couple glimmers of sunshine, that was short-lived yesterday. how much rainfall have we seen in the last few days? in a six-day total almost two feet of rain at mount sast ta. sterling city, 21 inches of rainfall. sims, california, 17.9. this is tremendous rainfall for a nontropical area. it has a tropical connection, because it's coming from the direction of hawaii, but still a mid and northern latitude situation. seattle and portland seeing some rain, snow at the higher elevations. if anything is a saving grace, it's a little cooler this go-around, so some of the moisture getting locked up in higher elevations in the form of snow. most of that is well north

the hour. parts of the southwest looking at snow today finally. is this meteorologist rob marciano joining us? >> i feel like we have to savor every minute with rob. >> please do. good morning. a little bit of snow across the southwest. you're right, it's been kind of a dry start to the winter for much of the inner mountain west. this will build some of the snow pack that has been yearning for the white stuff. there is your pulse of energy moving into southern california a bit of rain yesterday. claps of thunder in spots, more showers this morning. at the higher elevations of the san gabriel mountains, snow level at 4,000 feet that could bring 6 to 10 inches of snow there. in the mountains of utah, the san januauans of california, th will also be seeing snow, so they will take it for sure. in between the coasts, warm temperatures. once again, the above-normal temperatures continue across the southern and central plains. a cold slice of air trying to push through the northern tier, but that will have a hard time getting too far down to the south. temperatures right around seasonable. you go

are protesting a bitterly distributed right-to-work bill. nbc's rob mott now with the details. >> reporter: good day to you from the michigan state capital where we saw a lot of protesters out here protesting two measures that the house passed today that would bar unions from forcing people to join those unions as a condition of employment. sometime tomorrow governor rick schneider is expected to sign them into law make michigan the 24th right-to-work state in the country, joining a lot of others where the gop has majority in the state legislatures. now, a lot of these workers today were dismayed at the timing of all of this. this is taking place during a lame duck session of the legislature when a new body is being sworn in here, and in a month's time it's going to have a few more democrats than we saw here today, so when i sat down with the governor this afternoon i asked him why not delay this just a little bit longer, let a new body come in and give workers and people around the state of michigan more opportunity to debate this issue. he says it was not going to go away, that it doesn't make

. >> rob marciano is tracking the storms from the cnn weather center in atlanta. how is it looking in the near future, rob? >> well, a bit of a break today, soledad. more rain coming tomorrow. you saw the folks dealing with the rain about fall, cars driving through it. the rivers rushing. but we have infrastructure damage, as well. some video out of oakland in and around this area, lafayette there, this home damage, a number of them, you get near the hillside, that brings down debris and boulders and mud, and that does damage not only to homes but on the other side of roadways, we've got damage from a number of primary and secondary roads in and around this bay area. a tremendous amount of rainfall that has just undermined those structures. so you've got issues with that, as well. of course people driving through these flooded streets. you've got a need for rescues. the fire departments and their swift water rescue teams were out in full force over the weekend rescuing people. this is in cuss cadder ra and a number of other people had to be rescued. napa valley tremendous rainfall
